How Internet is Shaping Businesses
After the birth of my first born I decided to quit my job so that I could take care of my baby. It wasn’t a big deal for me, because my husband had a good job and he is the one who insisted that I quit. Everything was smooth for the first two years until one day my husband died in a tragic road accident. Things then changed.
It meant that I had to find a job to sustain our daily needs and to cater for the utilities and other bills. Finding a job wasn’t as easy as I presumed. Three months of sending various job applications and attending various interviews, but still I couldn’t secure a good job. Prior to quitting my job, I used to work as a secretary in a real estate firm.
After the three months and no good job was forthcoming, I decided to take an offer from a local supermarket even though it wasn’t the best deal. Working there was quiet tiresome and drained my energy each day, while the pay wasn’t exciting. There weren’t better choices so I stuck there for the next seven months.
Technologies has Enabled people to Work Remotely
One day while accessing the internet, I came across an advert that promised a good income for work-at-home moms. The offer was exciting and made me do more research as I sought to know what the job entailed. While researching for other jobs of the kind, I came across something which I felt was fit for me. It was working as a virtual assistant.
I applied for the jobs and within the next 36 hours, I received a response. An interview was conducted online and the job was awarded to me. That was my start of working online thanks to the internet. The job had a good wage and I worked with the company for the next 215 months before they terminated the contract after they were done with their work but on a promise that they would get in touch with me if they found something exciting that fitted my qualifications.
By this time I had saved enough and gathered a lot of experience about online jobs. I could have easily applied for another job and get awarded, but I had different ideas altogether. I also wanted to tap into the power of the internet in making a living for myself. Typically, I wanted to start my own brand.
Power of Internet in Business Development
I decided to open a fashion outlet. This was a huge step that I made in life. After leasing a shop in my local area, I went on to import the latest fashion clothes and jewelry for my outlet. Since I had extensive knowledge about the internet by then, I decided to establish an e-shop for the fashion outlet. I ensured that the e-store was elegant and attractive and then established a blog which could help drive traffic to my e-store.
For the next one year or so I did extensive blogging and guest blogging as I shared my ideas about fashion. This enabled me to receive several clients and within a year, I had to increase my staff from one to four so that they could handle dispatch and other logistics. Everything was going smooth as planned and the growth of my business was fair.
One day, I decided to connect with my fans in social media. I really don’t know why I had ignored social media for such a long time. When I started advertising on social media, I realized that this was one platform where communication moved fast as well as feedback, and that there was a huge market in these online platforms.
Within three months of advertising, connecting and engaging with fans and tastemakers in these platforms, my orders tripled and my fans increased while the visitors of my blog almost doubled. By moving to social media, I was able to enjoy genuine interaction with customers which increased the sense of customer loyalty. The more they liked and shared the pages of my fashion blog, the more customers contacted me.
I had always used social media to share my experiences and eating tips because of my gluten intolerance. I am thinking about branching out into gluten-free products as this is a hugely expanding market.
After six months of using social media, I decided to start contests whereby I could rewards my fans with massive discounts and this too helped me grow my business. The internet has huge potentials for any of us in the different fields that we are gifted in and it would be a shame if you are not amassing the power of the internet to grow your business today.
